THIS BLOG is NOW RETIRED

I began this blog in May 2009 following the death of Marcia Powell at Perryville State Prison in Goodyear, Arizona. It is not intended to prescribe the path that leads to freedom from the prison industrial complex.

Rather, these are just my observations in arguably the most racist, fascist, militaristic state in the nation at a critical time in history for a number of intersecting liberation movements. From Indigenous resistance to genocidal practices, to the fight over laws like SB1070 and the ban on Ethnic Studies, Arizona is at the center of many battles for human rights, and thus the struggle for prison abolition as well - for none are free until all are. I retired the blog in APRIL 2013.

Community and Resistance, and Anarchy.

(I make post cards out of these photos and send them to media, politicians, bureaucrats, and resistance fighters to draw more attention to the cause...seems to be working so far.)

Hey all,

I did plenty of advertising, but it looks like I actually failed to post the notice of today's Community and Resistance tour event at the Burton Barr Library, 2:30pm, with Jordan Flaherty (Katrina, Jena Six) and "Resistance Behind Bars' author Vikki Law. Here's a link to the Angloa 3 Newsletter's recent interview with Vikki.

I'll try to be better about this next time.

The photos for this post all came from the gathering of anarchists before the Neo-Nazis arrived at the Sandra Day O'Connor Courthouse yesterday. Two demonstrators were arrested at the Anti-fascist counter protest to the Nazis, one reportedly targeted as he was leaving for throwing rocks at police during the action. The other was accused of throwing rocks at the Neo-Nazis. I chalked, as you can see, but left before the action started to head off to ASPC-Tucson. Stay tuned: nazi protest coverage is being posted to phoenixanarchist.org.

Infoshop: Anarchists v Neo-Nazis Blog Report

Phoenix: Where Anarchists Pack Heat and Send Nazis Packing

by Crudo
Special to Phoenix Class War Council

“Okay, you’re a goon, but what’s a goon to a goblin?”
– Lil Wayne

As I looked out from my appropriated aviator Forever 21 sunglasses – I won’t lie, I felt a little uneasy. “That’s a big group,” I thought, as a motley crew of mostly large men carrying American and swastika flags began to goosestep my way. On closer inspection, I realized that the large group that looked to be about 100, was in fact, mostly police. This of course didn’t make me feel any less uneasy… (Go to Info shop. Great Photos)

Nazis Go Home

For those of you who saw the first version of this post, you'll notice I toned it down. I have to admit that sometimes I'm mindful that my mother drops in on my blogs. Thank god my Dad doesn't. Funny what kinds of things I end up censoring myself on, when I let my mouth get me in all sorts of other trouble.

Anyway, the "F*** You Nazi" photo I originally posted here can only be seen at the Feathered Bastard's blog on the Phoenix New Times website, where Stephen Lemons reports on the Neo-nazis' comical showing yesterday at the AZ Capitol building. Their rally should have warmed the hearts of other brown foes, like the Minutemen, the KKK, and of course our elected racists: Sheriff Joe, Andrew Thomas, and Russ Pearce.

I love this sign:

Anarchists v. Neo-Nazis: Saturday, AZ Capitol

Here you go - this is what I was talking about...just hit the Feathered Bastard every week at the Phoenix new Times.

Anarchists vs. Nazis at the Arizona Capitol? The "Phoenix Class War Council" Talks the Talk

Where's Brad Pitt when you need him?
There's one group talking a big game about confronting the neo-Nazi scum at the state Capitol this Saturday: the anarchists, the traditional foes of goosesteppers going all the way back to the Spanish Civil War, and then some. They're often badmouthed in many activist circles here in town for being unruly and pigheaded, but I will give them points for at least demonstrating against Holocaust-denier David Irving when he spoke at a Phoenix diner back in July. The anarchists were the only ones there. And for ruining Irving's day at least, I'd label the demonstration a success.

They don't command large numbers, and I suspect that organizing them is a little like herding felines. But they are generally intelligent, and pro-immigrant to the point of being for open-borders. Plus they have no moral quandaries with confronting blackshirts in the streets.

Their class-based political theories are a bit nutty, though. In a recent post to the Phoenix Class War Council's blog, which describes itself as a "fanatical, revolutionary anarchist group," the writer invites the local libertarian community to join the anarchists on November 7 in protesting the Nazis. Um, sorry, but the Ron Paulites and teabaggers are a little too close to the swastika-lickers for comfort sometimes, "states rights" being the battle cry of neo-Confederates, and all that. Paul himself had no problem accepting a campaign contribution from Ron Black, proprietor of the white supremacist messageboard Stormfront.org. He even appeared in a photo op with Black and Black's son.

The rest of the post is pretty gratifying, however, even if it sounds like a schnauzer with a doberman complex.
"If Americans can be counted on for anything," reads the post, "it's for hating Nazis, and images of brownshirted fascists in full historical reenactment regalia (or, alternately, dressing like SWAT team wannabes) spouting their anti-immigrant nonsense will highlight the extreme nature of what passes for the mainstream discussion in Arizona, and to show that there is strong resistance to it. The NSM's traveling circus affords us the opportunity to twist their spectacle to our ends."... (hit the bastard's blog for more...)

Neo-Nazis already occupy AZ Capitol Building

C'mon - Just ignore them? Wait - isn't it a white supremacist who did that brutal murder in the jail who's on trial now? And what about the Minuteman splinter group that murdered that family? Should we just ignore them, too? And all the racial profiling going on here - ignore that? Civil rights violations?

Should we create a favorable, friendly environment in which to host them while MCSO deputies go chasing after Copwatchers with their cute little Posse and camera in tow? Is that what the First Amendment is about?

How long do we ignore how many of these people before we confront their ugliness and hate, and reject it?Will we continue to ignore their poison as it seeps out of our elected officials - influencing policy, selectively starving people, and offering "hard working Americans" more jobs working in prisons instead of educating them and investing in sustainable development?

These people are pathetic. The real bad ones are already in power, of course. That's how it all works.

Neo-Nazis to march against illegal immigration at Arizona State Capitol

The leader of a group of neo-Nazis has announced a planned march for this weekend at the Arizona State Capitol in Phoenix.

National Socialist Movement commander Jeff Schoep said his group will be protesting against illegal immigration while showing support for the American worker.

Schoep acknowledges his group is a white civil rights organization concerned primarily with white people.

But, he said the group also supports "all legal citizens, all people who are here legally."

Anti-Defamation League spokesman Bill Strauss said illegal immigration is just a cover for the National Socialist Movement.

Strauss said the best thing people can do is ignore neo-Nazis.
